In your own space, create your own challenge. What’s something you want to see more people doing in fandom? Is there something fun you’ve tried that you think other people would enjoy if they gave it a go? Dare your friends to try it out, and have fun with it. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Okay, I was going to save this for after Snowflake was done, but this is the time to float this out to my flist and see what you think...
Background... you may or may not know accioslash -- she's very active in the Harry Potter fandom and helps run major Snape/Potter fests. She had a stroke recently, is still in the hospital and there's been some good news but she's by no means out of the woods. This is a person who was posting stories one day and in a life-threatening situation the next. Yes, that scary.
I know there are a lot of us in fandom who live on some type of a frail 'edge' -- physical, emotional, financial... Fandom is what keeps us connected but... what if we lose that connection?
What we all need is a 'backup plan' for our fandom lives. If something happens to you, any of you, how will we know and what will happen to your contributions to fandom? My SO is a dear heart but he wouldn't have a clue of where to start. He wouldn't even think of it. I need to leave him some way to let you-all know if something happens to me.
I have some ideas/suggestions on how to do that, I'm building a comm to let anyone talk and share, and I'll be counting on fandom for lots more good suggestions. But making the plan will be the key.
What do you think?
ETA: I'm not sure it's ready for prime time, but I created a my_backup_plan on both DW and LJ... it's not much yet, but join up and we'll figure it out together...
