"Fandom" is only going to grow... it will morph into new things and other places, but I don't see fandom as an entity going away.
Specific fandoms -- and, sigh, that includes my beloved Stargate Atlantis -- will grow smaller as we get further away from the end of the show. Even the huge Harry Potter fandom has smaller participation in fests and comms... it's just the nature of the beast.
But having found life-long friends in SGA fandom, it will always be my first love and the place I go to, given the choice. Sure, I'm going to play in other fandoms, but SGA is home...
I love LJ and DW for the interaction and they will also wax and wane as new, shiny platforms appear on the web. I'll admit that AO3 is my go-to for reading these days, but I also religiously watch my flist on LJ and DW (and on Insane Journal!) to see what is going on with all my friends. As long as we're here, there will be interest.
Bottom line: "Fandom" will never go away. How and where fandom exists will change.
