Snowflake Challenge - Day 11

Day 11

Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing or trope. Try creating a different kind of fanwork. Or check out some types of fanworks that are new to you. (The recs from Day 1, Day 3, and Day 9 might be a good place to start!)

So I've been reading a lot of Teen Wolf but haven't had the nerve to actually write any... So I've written a tad of Sterek... Un-beta'd.

My first TW fic. It's not terribly original but I need to work on being comfortable with the voices...

Years of experience in law enforcement had taught John Stillinski a lot about being patient, as well as how to read body language.

He looked up from the television to the two young men hovering in the doorway. They had something to say that they were nervous about.

Stiles was – mostly – an open book to him. Although he remembered with a pang of regret the almost two years where Stiles hadn't told him about the existence of werewolves. Stiles all but danced in place at the end of the room.

Derek Hale was harder to read but he shifted in place behind Stiles.

"Come in, have a seat," John invited, waving a hand at them. "It's last week's football game. I already know how it ends, but you could join me."

"Sure!" Stiles chirped brightly. "I can get…" He started to turn toward the kitchen.

Stiles stopped as Derek put a hand on his shoulder.

Interesting, John thought to himself. He briefly wished he had been able to do something like that when Stiles was younger. He loved his son, but sometimes he wished Stiles came with an off button.

"I guess not," Stiles went on. He moved toward the couch and sat, Derek sitting silently next to him.

"What's up?" John asked, trying for casual.

"We just thought, Derek and I, that maybe we should, I don't know, talk to you," Stiles offered. Then stopped.

John resisted a smile. "Yes?"

Stiles bounced a leg nervously, stopping when Derek put a hand on his knee.

"Well, we thought, okay it was mostly me but then Derek didn't disagree. Or, if you know Derek, it's not like he says things but emotes through his eyebrows and…" Stiles jumped and then turned and glared at Derek. "Hey! Watch it!"

"Stiles," Derek growled. "Get on with it."

"Okay, okay, I’m getting there," Stiles said. He turned back to face John. "DerekandIaredating."

"Okay," John replied. "And?"

"That's it!" Stiles replied. "Wait? What? You're not surprised?"

John did grin at that. "Not really," he admitted. "You moped around here when Derek was gone and only stopped when he came back. And since then, you've spent all your free time with him. Pretty obvious, even to an old guy like me."

"You're not old!" Stiles protested automatically.

"Older than you," John replied. He looked Derek in the eye, "You, too."

Derek nodded in acknowledgement.

"What happens to the pack if you two break up?" John asked. "Even if Derek isn't the Alpha, if you end up badly, it's going to affect everyone else."

Stiles shrugged. "We'll deal with it," he said.

Derek shifted awkwardly and John prompted, "Derek?"

"Stiles is… special," Derek said slowly. "Maybe… maybe he'll walk away from me, but…" His voice trailed off.

Stiles turned and faced Derek. "But?"

Derek's ears got red and John realized that maybe Derek hadn't admitted how special Stiles was to him.

Derek said something softly that John couldn't hear.

"We're what!?!?" Stiles screeched.

"Mates," Derek said so that John could hear.

"What does that mean?" John asked before Stiles could get started.

Derek looked at John and said in a solemn voice, "Stiles is it for me. I can't explain it too well, but the wolf in me has fixated on him and, well, if he won't have me then I have to accept that."

"Derek!" Stiles protested.

Derek shrugged.

"You'll take care of him?" John asked Derek.

"Yes." John could hear the promise in that.

"Good enough then," John replied.

"Hey! Don't I get a say in this?" Stiles protested.

"No." John and Derek said simultaneously.
