Work in Progress, 8/?

Okay... work week coming up... let's see if I can keep this going daily...

Any diet suggestions for Rodney? ;-)

They entered the mess hall and John held Rodney back for a moment.

"If we do this right, you may be slightly hungry at times but not starving," John said. "When you're really hungry, you should just eat, but if we try the 'lots of little meals' approach, that will be closest to your normal eating habits anyway."

"I do kind of graze," Rodney admitted.

"With your hypoglycemia, that's actually a good thing, as you've probably been told," John agreed. Not that he would admit to keeping an eye on Rodney's eating habits. "You just need to stop and think about what you're eating."

"Yeah, it's all easy at first and then there's an emergency and I've fallen off the diet and before I know it, I've put all the weight back on," Rodney said.

"Well, with the two of us working on it, maybe you won't forget," John offered. "He thought for a second. "And I might have an idea that might help. I'll tell you that later."

"That's what I was hoping for," Rodney admitted. "As long as it's not too much work."

"I'll put a moratorium on emergencies, if that will help," John grinned.

"That would help even more!" Rodney laughed. "Let me know how that works out for you."

Lunch was 'Pegasus goulash' and Rodney took a smaller portion than normal, filling his plate with vegetables and salad. John took extra fruit instead of desserts.

"Good start," John said. "Although the other thing you can do is drink more water during the day. And maybe a tad less coffee." He grinned at Rodney's look of horror. 'Yeah, I know. Just add a couple glasses of water here and there and you'll find you want less coffee."

"Oh, sure, make this no fun at all," Rodney groused but good naturedly. "Yeah, that's a good idea. The water, not the less coffee."

Well, I don't know about Rodney (but I can see this appealing to him), but I started using this app called My Fitness Pal. You log in your meals, water intake, and exercise, and it tracks your calories in and out for the day. I set a goal intake of 1200 calories/day and 30 minutes of exercise/day. Doing exercise gains you more calories to consume and at the end of the day's entries, it gives you a prediction of what your weight would be at the end of 5 weeks at your current day's standards.

I swore I'd never do anything like this because eating disorders run rampant in my family, but it *was* eye-opening to see how many calories I was consuming without even realizing it. And 'beating the goal' is becoming a bit of a game with me, so I've stuck with it this holiday weekend. :-)

So far, I've yet to find any food item I eat that wasn't in the databank. Brand names, everything. Because people can update the system (I guess like Wikipedia) the information bank is *huge*.

I wonder how many calories are in tormack? :D
Tormack is a starch, so I'm putting it in the 'potato' category for calories... not too bad on it's own, but all the additions are the killers!

And it is amazing when you really pay attention... I'm doing low carb at the moment -- which is good for me, not so much for Rodney -- and I watched the hubby graze last night... he must have gotten up like six times to grab a snack... mostly veggies but not always!

I'll have to check that app out, though... sounds interesting!
I hear you!!
I'm confident that the two of them can pull this off :D I like salads, but I tend to smother it in dressing, which I think takes any nutritional value away lol.

Less coffee though - poor Rodney XD That will be very difficult to stay on top of during an emergency and he needs the caffeine boost~
Yeah, that dressing thing can be a killer... that may come up in the next few days... ;-)

Thanks for reading along!

Wow! Good for you! That's a great success!

I know it's the exercise that will help for me... it does feel better when I do it! ;-)

Thanks, also, for reading along!
