Prompt: #27: Ice skating
Summary: It was New Year's Eve...
Note: Stretching of the prompt and my muse is stuck in 'sap' mode... ;-)
Severus knew he was treading on thin ice. He had looked Voldemort in the eye and told bald-faced lies to protect the Order. That was less scary than this was.
It was New Year's Eve, the cusp of a new year. A year that held possibilities that Severus had never hoped for.
He drew Harry to sit next to him. Harry looked at him with a question in his eyes but moved next to him easily.
"Severus?" Harry asked.
"Harry," Severus said softly, fumbling in his pocket. "I understand this is traditionally a Christmas present. But, we've never been traditional."
"That we have not," Harry grinned.
Adversaries that had become lovers before becoming friends, and then colleagues. It was all out of 'normal' order.
Severus fretted about their age difference. Harry wondered if he was too naïve, not experienced enough. They figured their mutual insecurity was normal.
It took them too long to realize they were unhappiest when they were apart for any extended time.
Severus brought his hand from his pocket and held up a plain gold ring.
Harry's eyes went round.
Severus swallowed. "Will you marry me?"
Harry's arms around his neck, kissing him soundly, was answer enough.
