Prompt: #16: Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Summary: "You've never done this before?" Severus asked.
Note: For Adventdrabbles on Insane Journal.
Seeker-quick, Harry grabbed the chestnut as it jumped from the fire.
"Ow, fuck! That's hot!" He dropped the steaming nut and shook his hand to relieve the pain.
"And I do not understand why are you surprised by that," Severus drawled, but he cast an accio salve as he moved to sit next to Harry.
He grabbed the tube from the air and set it down next to him. He took Harry's hand in his and turned it up so he could see the burn.
"It's not that bad," Harry protested. But he didn't take his hand from Severus' warmth.
Severus smoothed the paste on the palm of Harry's hand. "This is why you put the chestnuts in a pan," he observed.
"You do?" Harry asked, then rolled his eyes. "What's the bit about Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire?"
"You've never done this before?" Severus asked.
"No." Harry looked abashed.
"Did you score the nuts before putting them on the fire?" Severus demanded.
"Ummm… No?" Harry replied, concerned.
Severus grabbed his wand and placed a shield in front of the fireplace. None too soon because one chestnut soared up into the air as another exploded in the firepit.
"Whoa."
Severus Vanish'd the contents of the fireplace before it got out of control. He returned his focus to smoothing the paste on the burn.
"Damn," Harry frowned. "I wanted to try roasted chestnuts."
"We can find a proper pan and try it again tomorrow," Severus promised solemnly.
Harry held Severus' hand as he swung around so that he was sitting in Severus' lap. He placed his hands on Severus' shoulders.
"Now that there are no chestnuts, we have to find something else to do," Harry grinned.
Severus' hands found their way to sit on Harry's hips. "I suspect we do."
