Summary: For the mcsheplets Challenge #33: Black
Rodney groaned as he resettled the ice pack on his face. The pain meds were just starting to kick in -- Keller, a voodoo witch doctor cut from the same cloth as Carson, wouldn't give him any of the really good stuff -- but the pain was still there.
A knocking on his door startled him.
"Go away!" Rodney called.
The door opened to let Sheppard in the door. He snorted, although that hurt, too, Atlantis would always let John into his room. "Go away," he said again firmly.
"I.... I just wanted to apologize," John started. "I brought chocolate...." He held out the candy bar as a peace offering.
"It hurts too much to eat anything right now," Rodney countered. "Put it on the desk and leave me alone."
"Do you need anything?" John offered, moving toward the bed where Rodney was lying.
"No. Go away," Rodney repeated.
"It was an accident," John replied, rolling his eyes.
"Yes, I know. It still hurts," Rodney countered.
"Let me see?" John asked, sitting on the bed next to him.
"Will you go away then?"
John shrugged. "If you really want."
Rodney lifted the ice pack from his face and saw his friend wince. He put the ice back.
"That's quite the black eye," John commented.
"That'll teach you to startle me when I'm under a console," Rodney couldn't help the sarcasm.
"Sorry," John reiterated. "Thought you heard me coming." He looked around. "Anything I can do for you before I leave?"
"You can kiss it and make it better," Rodney found himself saying. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. Maybe those were better drugs than he thought.
He felt John go still. "Rodney?"
"No, no, no," Rodney stuttered. "Sorry, must be the meds..." He stopped when a warm hand settled just above his on the ice pack.
"Really?" There seemed to be a tinge of hope in that question. Rodney nodded carefully.
Without taking his eyes away from Rodney's, John gently lifted the ice pack and leaned in. Rodney closed his eyes as warm lips brushed the side of his face and he almost forgot to breathe as light kisses rained over his eyelid and on his forehead.
"Is that better?"
Rodney nodded fractionally, opening his eyes to see clear hazel eyes close to his. Going for broke, Rodney pointed to his mouth, "Hurts here, too...."
A grin of delight, "I think I can fix that...." and then there was no breath for talking.
