Summary: Somehow, it was sad that he knew to do that.

"Fuck!" Rodney tried to pay attention as the avalanche swept him – and his team – off their feet and down the steep embankment. He tucked his arms around his body and put his chin down to his chest.

Somehow, it was sad that he knew to do that.

When he finally stopped moving, it was dark and he was covered by snow. He immediately tried to spread out to make as large a space as possible. Running out of air was not something he wanted to think about.

Taking stock, Rodney figured he was bruised but didn't have any broken bones.

He dug the LSD out of his tac vest pocket, to both give him information and to provide some light.

A sigh of relief as he saw three other life signs. One was moving about, the other two stationary. He really hoped it was Ronon, he could help dig them out.

Taking a deep breath, he considered which way was up. He let go of the LSD and it fell toward his head. He was upside down. He inched around until he was relatively upright.

"—ney?" A voice came on his communicator, which miraculously was still in his ear.

"John?" Rodney called.

"Rodney!" John's voice came through stronger. Rodney thought he heard a thread of relief under that. "How are you?"

"Relatively okay," he said. "Nothing broken." This wasn't the time for his usual dramatics. "Although it's kinda teeny where I am."

"Hang on!" John said. "Teyla's hurt, so we want to get her out first."

"Okay," Rodney agreed. Not like he had a lot of choice at this point. He watched the dots on the LSD move, two circled around a third, which he assumed was Teyla.

Sitting still, buried in snow, he was starting to get cold.

Rodney lost track of time. He was cold, wet and getting sleepy, which he knew was dangerous. He clung to the Life Sign Detector, watching the three dots. One went off, leaving two dots that stayed in place.

Rodney must have dozed, when he woke with a start, it was dark. The LSD must have powered down. When he turned it on, through bleary eyes he could see that there were about a dozen life signs, most of them near his dot.

He wanted to close his eyes again...

"Rodney!" John's voice commanded. "Talk to me."

"mmm... okay," he mumbled.

Rodney spent a week in the infirmary, two weeks restricted to their room and another month on light duty.

Through all, John was by his side, encouraging, cajoling, taking in the bitching.

In bed one night, Rodney said softly, "Thank you."

"Hate that you had to go through that," John murmured in his hair, hands stroking skin.

"Knew you'd save me," Rodney admitted.

"You did good, you know," John said.

"Learned from the best," Rodney replied. "But don’t tell anyone I said that."

A rueful laugh. "Never." John dropped a kiss on the top of his head, holding him tight.

John will *always* come for you, Rodney!

::happy sigh:: loved this!
Wow... that was *fast*!!!

Yes, John always will!

Thanks!
Love it. You know, I thought it was cool that Rodney knew what to do though. Loved that John was there for him too though even through the bitching as he recovered LOL
It's a sad statement about life in the Pegasus Galaxy that Rodney knows just what to do in an avalanche. I'm glad he escaped relatively unscathed (hypothermia aside). Poor John must have been terrified :(
