Harry guided the lit taper in Eleanor's small hand. They lit the first candle.

"This is for mommy," Ellie said. "And this is for papa," she said as they lit a second candle.

"Good job," he praised the five-year-old.

"Can we do Rommie's?" she asked.

"We can hold his hand," Harry told her.

Severus brought Romulus close since he wasn't – quite – walking yet. Harry gently guided the two small hands to light the candles. Ellie offering, "for mommy" and "for papa" on behalf of her brother.

Harry saw Severus place a quite ward around the flickering candles, for everyone's protection.



"Now mommy and papa can watch us get presents!" Ellie clapped her hands together.

"Yes, they can," Severus said.

"Tomorrow," Harry said firmly. "Presents come tomorrow."

Ellie pouted momentarily, then brightened, "Cookies?"

Harry heard Severus stifle a sigh. "One cookie and then bed," he said.

"Okay!" she chirped, dragging Harry to the kitchen for her bedtime snack.

One cookie and some warm milk later, Harry tucked Ellie into bed as Severus changed Romulus and put him to bed.

"Tell me a story!" Ellie demanded.

Harry sat on the side of the bed and said, "Your mommy was a special lady..."
